Snapshots — Create, Restore, and Delete Server Snapshots on EasyCloudify™
TL;DR — EasyCloudify™ Snapshots let you take instant on-demand disk copies of your server, restore the server to any previous snapshot, and optionally replicate snapshots to another region for disaster recovery.
What is the EasyCloudify™ Snapshot Feature?
EasyCloudify™ Snapshots is an on-demand backup feature that captures a complete image of your server's disk at a specific point in time, allowing you to restore your server to that exact state or use the snapshot to replicate the server elsewhere. Snapshots are different from automated backups — they are manual, instant, and stored indefinitely until you delete them. Access Snapshots at /cloudpanel/snapshots.
Before You Start
- You have at least one VPS server deployed
- You have an active Snapshots plan subscription (see Plans & Billing)
How to Create a Snapshot
Step 1 — Navigate to Snapshot Management
In the sidebar, click Snapshots. You land on /cloudpanel/snapshots.
Step 2 — Select a Server
Use the server selector to choose the server you want to snapshot. If no servers are found, a message prompts you to deploy one, with a link to /cloudpanel/deploy.
Step 3 — Click Create Snapshot
Click the Create Snapshot button. EasyCloudify™ takes a full disk image of your selected server. Snapshot names are auto-generated from your subscription ID. Creation takes a few minutes depending on disk size.
💡 Tip: Creation time depends on disk size. A server with a 50 GB disk takes longer than one with a 25 GB disk. Do not power off the server during snapshot creation.
How to Restore a Snapshot
Step 1 — Select a Snapshot
Use the snapshot selector to view available snapshots for the selected server.
Step 2 — Click Restore Snapshot
Click the Restore Snapshot button on the snapshot you want to restore. A confirmation modal appears:
"Restore your server to this snapshot? Your current data will be lost."
Step 3 — Confirm
Click Restore Snapshot to confirm. EasyCloudify™ restores your server disk to the selected snapshot state.
💡 Tip: Restoring a snapshot permanently overwrites your server's current disk. If you want to keep the current state, create a new snapshot before restoring.
How to Delete a Snapshot
Step 1 — Click Delete
Click the Delete button on any snapshot row in the snapshots list. A confirmation modal appears:
"Delete this snapshot? This action cannot be undone."
Step 2 — Confirm
Click Delete Snapshot to confirm. EasyCloudify™ deletes the snapshot, cancels any associated Stripe subscription for that snapshot, and removes the record from your account.
How to Replicate a Snapshot
When creating or managing a snapshot, the Replicate toggle creates a replica of the snapshot in another region. Enable the replicate checkbox before or during snapshot creation to activate cross-region replication.
Replication provides geographic redundancy — if one region has an outage, the replica in another region remains accessible.
Subscription Required
If you do not have an active Snapshots plan, EasyCloudify™ shows an upsell message. Click View Plans to navigate to /cloudpanel/account/plans.
Troubleshooting
Issue: "No servers found. Deploy a server to create snapshots." Why it happens: No active servers exist under your account. Fix: Deploy a server first via Deploy a VPS Server.
Issue: Snapshot creation appears to hang. Why it happens: Large disk sizes require more time. Creation may take 5–15 minutes for large servers. Fix: Wait and refresh the page. Do not navigate away.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a snapshot and an automated backup?
Snapshots are manual, on-demand disk images you trigger yourself. Automated backups (see Automated Backups) run on a schedule. Both can be used to restore a server.
How many snapshots can I have per server?
The number of snapshots depends on your active Snapshots subscription plan and its slot allocation.
